The Black Lives Matter movement has always been connected to the LGBTQ community. Alongside that triumphant moment is the Black Lives Matter movement, which saw people in all 50 states protest for racial equality. Supreme Court’s historic ruling that the 1964 Civil Rights Act protects gay, lesbian, and transgender employees from discrimination based on sex. While 2020 has been a difficult year for many so far, there have been some encouraging moments.
We celebrate and support the LGBTQ community and will help in the continued fight for equality in the workforce and beyond. Striving to be a more equality-driven organization, we’d like to shine a deserved spotlight on San Diego Pride Week. After all, the cannabis plant is symbolic of connecting with others, advocacy, and social change. However, we believe the cannabis industry should set an example for inclusivity. Over 1,000 Pride events have been identified across the globe, each one taking on a local flair. The origins of the global Pride movement can trace their roots to the Stonewall riots of 1969, an uprising against police brutality that has spread around the world. Viewers will have the chance to experience songs, spoken word, dance, comedy, and poetry that provides a glimpse into our members’ lives- our struggles, triumphs, history, and loves. The event features individual and small acts performed by SDWC members from the safety of their own homes. Hosted by the San Diego Women’s Chorus, San Diego Pride is thrilled to share our first ever virtual cabaret, premiering LIVE on YouTube on July 16th at 7pm PDT, as part of San Diego Pride week.
To celebrate Pride Week, we will honor our LGBTQ interfaith community and witness virtually the Cathedral’s annual ceremonial rainbow lighting. Join interfaith leaders, elected officials, and San Diego’s LGBTQ community at this official San Diego Pride 2020 virtual event.
